The Vice-Chancellor of the University is Professor Brian Cantor. He is York's fifth Vice-Chancellor and joined the University in October 2002.

[edit] Background and Education
Brian Cantor was born in Manchester and went to Manchester Grammar School before studying at the University of Cambridge, where he obtained a BA in Natural Sciences and a PhD in Metallurgy.
[edit] Career
Cantor worked as a Research Assistant and then a Lecturer in the School of Engineering at the University of Sussex between 1972 and 1981. He has also worked at the University of Oxford as the Cookson Professor of Materials and a Professorial Fellow at St Catherine's College. He founded the Division of Mathematical and Physical Sciences at Oxford and was Head of the Department of Materials there for five years.
