[edit] Accommodation
Student accommodation in Goodricke is divided into four blocks: A, B, C and D. C Block is known throughout campus as "Cell Block C" and was reportedly once voted the worst student accommodation in the country in a national survey. A 2002 YUSU campaign to highlight the low standards of university accommodation produced a mock-up Monopoly board of campus and placed the Cell Block in place of Old Kent Road.
A-Block, nicknamed the "A-Boy Mansion" is the largest block in the college and has a reputation for wild drunken parties. B-Block is the designated quiet block, while D-Block is separated from the rest of the college by a bridge over the lake, as it used to be part of Wentworth College.
[edit] Events
[edit] History
Goodricke Events have somewhat changed since Christmas 2006. With the election of a new committee, came new Ents Officers with new ideas; Sally makaruk, Joe Clarke, Nick Fisher and Anzy miller. Their campaign was based on the slogan 'Spirit of Goodricke', as Goodricke is known for having an excellent college spirit and atmosphere. Their publicity was branded around the Ghostbusters and went down a storm. Winning them the election into their post.
The first event in January was a Seventies Clubnight. This was a very successful event with lots of people in fancy dress and a great Club atmosphere.
The second event hosted by the team was Zero-G. Lots of controversy surrounded this event and it didn't do too well. This could have been due to a number of factors, not least the fact that it was in reading week.
After Zero-G the decision was made to have a complete re-brand of Goodricke events. moving away from the previous 'Playboy mansion' theme towards a newer, more exciting idea. Some of the suggestions put forward were 'G-Spot', 'G-Force', 'Ghetto' and 'GoodShack' amongst many more. A JCRC decision was taken to have the new theme as GoodShack. This really was a clear turning point for the college.
The third event hosted by Goodricke Ents, the first under the new GoodShack brand '07 was St Paddy's party. It was held on the weekend of St Patricks day. The event was sponsored by Guinness, with special offers on most drinks it was guaranteed to be a drunken night. However, it went down very well, made the college a bit of money and everyone had an awesome night, many even came away with Guinness merchandise, and ofcourse a bad hangover.
Into the summer term, the Ents guys built on a flagship Goodricke event and put their stamp on it. The event 'White Chocolate' was based on the earlier R&B 'Chocolate' event. Only this time it was a white party. Everyone wearing white and DJ's Sarah Forster and Fenna Rhodes both did sets. There was a chocolate fountain and lots of free food given away. This was such a successful event and helped to build on the hype created by the previous events.
The final event of the 2006-2007 academic year was the GoodShack beach party. With fire throwers, circus performers, dancers and the Toffs/Gallery DJ Sarah Forster, this was an awesome way to end the year. Copious amounts of free alcohol were given away and cocktails were sold as cheap as £1.50. It also saw the return of Goodricke Old Boys, who attended en masse.
In their last term as Ents Officers they held 2 events for Freshers; 'Everything G' and Fright Night at Halloween. After a whole year of battling to improve the standard of the events they introduced a new layout to the events, making GoodShack into the first authentic club on campus, this was for the event 'Dark Chocolate' which saw a return of hit DJ Fenna Rhodes. The event was a sell-out and massive success. They handed over tot he new Ents Reps to continue the legacy at Christmas 2007.
[edit] Current
The current Ents Reps; Dan, Emma, Erica and Elle have continued with respectable, high quality, music specific events and the popularity of GoodShack events is growing, with events selling out within a couple of days of going on sale. Their first event was Seven Deadly Sins, which was in association with Alcuin College and featured top Dance DJ; DJ Fletch.
