MP for Camberwell and Peckham since 1997 Harman has held several positions in government including Secretary of State for Social Security and Solicitor General (becoming the first woman to perform this role). In March 2006 she announced that she would be stepping down from the cabinet so as not to experience a conflict of interests while her husband, Treasurer of the party, investigated the cash for peerages scadal. She has made public her intention to stand for Deputy Leader of the Labour Party when Tony Blair steps down and opinion polls have indicated she would be a popular choice. Unsuprisingly while at York she studied Politics.
