Guidelines

All content must be encyclopedic

  • Stick to the facts
  • sentences such as "xxx soc is the best and most popular soc at york" or "xxx is a jackass" will be deleted
  • if some survey, study, article concludes this, then say that: "xxx article claims that xxx soc to be the most popular society at york" or "50% of participants in xxx survey thought xxx was a jackass" but always remember to link to the source in the External Links section (see below)

The content must be neutral

  • Don't write in the first person - avoid "we", "our", "us"
  • Don't write opinions as fact (see above)

Stick to this standard template ("edit"/"view source" this page to see the wikitext)

  • Although the first sections can be about whatever is appropriate, The last 3 sections must be used if the information is there to warrent them.
  • Remember the [[Category:Societies]] at the top of the page (the position isn't consistent across existing pages, but i like to put categories at the top). This will make your society visible from Category:Societies. Categories are linked to at the bottom of the page.
  • If your society has multiple names, use the official name and redirect other names to it:
    • E.g. don't call it "York University Christian Union (YUCU)", call it "Christian Union" and redirect "York University Christian Union", "YUCU", "CU" to "Christian Union".
    • To make a redirect, create an article and just put #redirect [[Main Article]].

The template starts after this line:

The society template is a template to help society members write society pages about their societies. This short paragraph briefly and neutrally describes the society and possibly its aims. Please remain encyclopedic.
