[edit] University of York Horse Racing Society
The UYHRS has two main aims; firstly, to organise trips to race meetings, and secondly, to put lovers of the sport itself in touch with each other. It offers trips right through the academic year, visiting local racecourses such as York, Doncaster, Wetherby, Ripon, Haydock and some further afield, such as Cheltenham, Aintree, Epsom and Ascot. The society aims to release some negative stigma attached to horse racing, and cultivate interest in the sport by giving students the opportunity to go racing as a social event.
The society also runs socials with the aim of helping Horse Racing fans to meet each other. Socials vary from nights on the town, to gathering in front of a television for an afternoon's racing.
