The York Philosophy Society is the place to go for anyone interested in philosophy, or indeed anyone who can stand the company of philosophers. It's run mostly by philosophy undergraduates, but has both under and postgraduate members, from several subjects. The society runs regular events and hosts talks from visiting lecturers. If you want to be kept updated about its activites, it's best to join the facebook group. For further information, news, and discussion forums, try the website.

[edit] Philoscoffee

Philoscoffee is society's staple, and is run every Wednesday of term at 2:30pm, barring unusual circumstances. It involves meeting somewhere (usually a campus bar or in town), and discussing a topic. To stimulate discussion some initial questions are provided, but deviation is encouraged.

[edit] Philoscohol

Continuing the tradition of bad puns, philoscohol is a more informal gathering, usually in the pub. There's no topic, it's just a good opportunity to meet and talk to the analytically minded. It's usually run every other Thursday evening.

[edit] Films

The society runs films in V/045 and sometimes in cooperation with YSC, the topic is usually something thought-provoking but don't expect too many high-brow foreign films. This happens on non-philoscohol Thursdays.
