Roger Kirk was a headmaster of Easingwold School and a long-time member of the University Council. He was awarded an honorary degree by the University of York in 2003, the year in which it celebrated its 40th anniversary. The press release issued by the University to mark this described him as having been "a dedicated supporter of student life."
