University Radio York (URY) is the student radio station for the University of York, broadcasting 24 hours a day during term time on 1350am across the University's Heslington Campus (and unofficially off campus in the York area) and worldwide on their website. The station is run by students for students with no playlist and no set format to many of their shows.

The URY's studios lie in their own building at the heart of the Campus in at Vanburgh college. But URY's real presence is felt outside of the studio, around the campus at major University and Student Union events, whether they're covering live music, recruiting new Freshers or reporting on major news events.

The main activities involved in running the station are broken down in teams, which contain officers who are responsible for specific areas of station activity and has one of the largest memberships of any British student-run radio station.

URY has a rich history of pioneering broadcasting, beginning in 1968 when URY became the UK's first legal independent radio station. The events section of the URY website gives a taste of what URY has achieved over the years, including a launch show hosted by John Peel, special FM broadcasts and numerous charity events. In 2005 URY obtained national recognition of it's achievements by being named BBC Radio One Student Station of the Year.

The 2007-2008 academic year brings URY's 40th Anniversary and they continue to strive to be a leader in student radio - each new intake of people brings new ideas and contributes to the enthusiasm you hear on-air. The getting involved section of their website tells you how you can become a part of it all, if you're a York student of course!
