[edit] Colleges

In order of their creation, the eight colleges are:

TRANSPORT

ROAD & RAIL:

Getting to York from the rest of the country is simple by train or road. The station is a major East Coast Mainline station and so is well connected to the regional & national rail network. Tickets (especially across the North of England) are reasonably priced.

BUSES:

The number 4 bus service (new FTRistic buses) runs from the university to the city centre, station and to Acomb on the other side of York. This operates a flat-rate fees service with conductors on board - prices from Jan 2008 £1.80 for a single, £2.90 for a return anywhere on the number 4 service. Buses run 7 days.

There are also other less frequent (but cheaper) buses serving the Universtiy:

Veolia Transport run red buses on circular services 28/29. One bus per hour runs in each direction, library side bus stops(service 28 Monks Cross via Fulford, Clifford Street & Rougier Street in the city centre) & service 29 campus side (ftr) bus stops through to Monk's Cross Shops,(big ASDA & Sainsbury's etc), via Heworth. Buses Run Mon-Fri Only

East Yorkshire Buses run bus 746 along university road, into York centre & on to Station Rise. This is on the Pocklington to York route. (for York use campus side stops). Buses run approximately hourly Mon - Sat.

TAXIS:

to and from town are reasonably priced and are worthwhile compared to buses if there is a group of 3 or more people. Ebor Taxis is based on Heslington Lane, between the City and University, and offers student discounts. Other well used Taxi firms include A*Team, who also do small minibuses.

ON YOUR BIKE:

York is cyclist-friendly. There are plenty of places to store bikes on campus and in town, and on campus, thefts are few and far between. Most of York is flat; the one major hill is unfortunately placed between the west campus and Thief Lane, which leads into town.
