Founded in 1984, the Centre for Women's Studies is one of Britain's largest and most well-established bases for gender-oriented teaching and research. It offers a range of postgraduate degrees including Postgraduate Diplomas, MPhils, PhDs and a variety of specialty MA programmes.

The Centre holds close ties with many departments across the University, particularly those in the humanities and social sciences. Each department holds its own research seminar series which are open to any graduate student. The Centre also organises its own regular staff-graduate seminars at which members of staff, graduate students and distinguished visiting scholars present research.

The Centre is located on the third floor of Grimston House in Vanbrugh College.
