The Yorkipedia is an online encyclopedia focussing on the University of York. It uses MediaWiki, the wiki software behind Wikipedia, and as such all content is user contributed.

The Yorkipedia came online in October 2006 and is managed by The Yorker whose members have made most of the initial contributions.

On Sunday 23rd September 2007 Yorkipedia switched licenses from the a Creative Commons License to the GNU Free Documentation License. Existing articles remained under the Creative Commons license with a message on each, encouraging it to be rewritten. This was to allow exchange of content with Wikipedia which also uses the GNU Free Documentation license.
